In between worlds:
Clare market 23/24 Issue.
“We must not fear daylight just because it almost always illuminates a miserable world.”
René Magritte
Project reflective of Clare Market Reviews 2023/24 issue ‘Hope/Horror’. Often seen as opposites, this year's theme for CMR invites contributors to consider the relationship between the restorative and the destructive elements of life. Endurance and violence. The beautiful and the horrific. The hunt and the creation. How does the light blaze in the midst of fire? How does hope emerge in the midst of horror? Is it an impossible dream?
This project is my personal response to the theme. Reflecting the balance between dark and light, motion and stillness, hope and horror; this project aims to explore the relationship between opposites and how they can come together to create a whole new take on our perceptions of reality. Inspired by the surrealist movement and the works of René Magritte and Luis Buñuel, this project also hopes to explore the middle ground between polarising concepts and attempt to visualise what these might look like.
